VMware’s End-User Computing Ambitions

With the purchase of  desktop-as-a-service pioneer Desktone earlier this month, VMware added another arrow to its quiver of weapons in the desktop virtualization space.

The company is dominant in the data center virtualization space, but its desktop virtualization business remains a small sideline, although executives from CEO Pat Gelinsinger to channel chief Dave O’Callaghan, to Canadian president Eric Gales all see it as a growing part of the company’s business for the future.

In the third part of my series of video interviews from the recent VMforum event in Toronto, I sit down with both Gales and Shawn Rosemarin, executive director of architecture and professional services for VMware Canada to discuss the Deskton acquisition and how it fits into the company’s overall end-user computing strategy.
